The Denver Nuggets star secured the league's MVP title in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The star player injured himself late in the first half following an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate stepped on the foot of Jokic, who immediately went down to the ground holding his knee.

The 30-year-old, who leads the league season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the game before sustaining the problem.

The player will have an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the issue.

"Immediately, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who is injured, it's difficult, particularly a player as important as Jokic. More information will come on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more worried primarily about Jokic personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
