The former Liverpool manager states coming back to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I won't manage a different club within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The forward was killed in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
