Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
