Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”

He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
